Lesly Gorbach, granddaughter of Aaron McClintock McKee, has contributed pictures of the young Aaron McKee, and his wife to be, Emilie Hood, taken in 1878.
One of the children of Aaron McKee, Alexander John (born 1882), had a remarkable life, including a law degree, a stint in the Army, and then training and a career as a civil engineer. See our Genealogy Section for some notes on Alexander John McKee. Lesly has recently transcribed the World War One Diary of her father, Alexander John, and we have this very interesting diary on a separate webpage Here.
Alexander John McKee had two children, Lesly and Ian, pictured in May, 2014.
Jennifer Evans, also granddaughter of Aaron McClintock McKee, has provided a family tree for him, along with some notes. We have entered this family branch into our new Genealogy Section, along with some pictures.
Jennifer writes in January 2014:
I don’t know a lot about the Australian McKee’s. My mother, Olive Ruth McKee Mann, died when I was born, and a couple of years later my father married an American and emigrated to the US, with me in tow. My first three years were spent in the home of my Auntie Mabel (McKee) and Uncle Herbert (Bert) Green in Hamilton NSW. He was a Methodist minister and they had no children of their own. Uncle Bert was a Yorkshireman and had served in the trenches in France in World War I. He had some after-effects of mustard gas, which no doubt contributed to his stance as an outspoken pacifist. In 1955 in Birmingham, England, I met a Quaker missionary lady from Katoomba, NSW, who knew Uncle Bert and who had participated with him in some pacifist demonstrations, including rowing around in Sydney Harbour to protest the presence of US nuclear warships. He must have been in his 7O’s at the time.
My Auntie Edith McKee, sister to Mabel and Olive, also married a Methodist minister, Arthur Cannon, and they were missionaries in China during the 1930’s. I have Uncle Arthur’s Bible and Hymnbook, and several small souvenirs which they brought back from China for me. Auntie Vi (Violet) never married, and I was told that she was a chronic invalid.
C.J. McKee (Cousin Jim) is the son of Osmund, and is a delightful old gentleman, nearly 93. He visited us in 1992, and we saw him briefly on our last trip to Australia in 2005. He lives in Woolongong, NSW, surrounded by great numbers of children and grandchildren.
This will give you a start on the Australians. Lesly will know more about the family.
Jennifer and Bob Evan’s grandson, Michael, was married beside a lake in Dawsonville, Georgia, in October, 2014. We have an (updated) Evans family picture below, and an updated Genealogy Section. Jennifer points out that Michael looks just like his gr-gr-grandfather Aaron (photo at top of page), and it’s true!
